Fat transfer injections are one of the latest advances in injectable dermal fillers that use your own fat to safely and comfortably eliminate lines, wrinkles, creases, folds, and other visible symptoms of aging to give you a smooth, younger-looking appearance. Dr. Jennifer Emmett, board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, offers this state-of-the-art procedure for Denver-area patients at Emmett Plastic Surgery, her Lone Tree practice.
What Are Fat Transfer Injections?
Fat transfer injection, also known as microlipoinjection, is a procedure in which your own fat is harvested from certain areas of your body and injected into other areas to enhance fullness and volume. The fatty tissue may be used to enhance facial contours, fill in cheeks, add fullness and smooth out lines and wrinkles. Fat transfers may also be used to enhance contours in the body, adding volume and fullness to areas such as thighs and buttocks.
Benefits of Fat Transfer Injections
The demand for fat transfer injections is rapidly increasing among cosmetic surgery patients because this procedure provides the following benefits:
- Reduces wrinkles and restores facial volume without facelift surgery.
- Is safe and effective with very low risks since it uses your own bodily tissue.
- Transfers your own fat to areas where you desire to add volume and fullness.
- Is a simple outpatient procedure performed in the doctor’s office.
- Requires no recovery period or downtime.
Am I a Good Candidate for Fat Transfer Injections?
Fat transfer injections are an excellent choice for those who seek to reverse the symptoms of aging and sun damage without resorting to plastic surgery, or in some cases, in combination with plastic surgery. Dr. Emmett and her team may also recommend this procedure for younger patients to enhance facial or body contours and diminish imperfections in the face or create a more streamlined silhouette in the body. You should be in good overall health in order to get fat transfer injections.
How Are Fat Transfer Injections Administered?
Fat transfer injection requires three steps, and Dr. Emmett and her team of specialists may provide a pain reliever or local anesthesia to keep you comfortable during the procedure.
Step 1: Liposuction is used to harvest fat from a particular area of the body. The most common sites for fat harvest are the belly, buttocks, and thighs. In most cases, the fat is harvested from a location where the patient has been stubbornly attempting to reduce fatty deposits, providing a double benefit, as liposuction also improves the contours of those areas.
Step 2: The harvested tissue is then processed to isolate fat cells.
Step 3: The fat cells are injected into the treatment areas using a small fine-gauge needle. Dr. Emmett and her team carefully and precisely determine the exact injection sites where the fat transfer will best enhance the contours, firmness and skin volume of the area.
Results will be visible immediately following the procedure, however, approximately 50% of patients may require a follow-up treatment because the body may absorb the transplanted fat cells.
How Much Do Fat Transfer Injections Cost?
The cost of fat transfer injections varies from patient to patient. Fat transfer injections are often considered elective cosmetic procedures, so your insurance may not cover the procedure. Emmett Plastic Surgery provides a variety of financing methods including CareCredit®, Simmons Bank, and Prosper® Healthcare Lending. Our office also accepts cash, checks, and credit cards as payment.
