What is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is used to correct sagging skin around the eye area by removing loose skin and pockets of fatty tissue. This technique is typically performed on patients with puffy bags under the eyes or upper eyelids that droop.
Benefits of Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty corrects the sagging excess skin and fat in the eye area to help patients look younger, more alert, and less tired. It is more focused than a facelift. Blepharoplasty eliminates:
- Excess skin from the upper and lower eyelids.
- Puffiness and fatty deposits beneath the lower eyelids and in the eye sockets.
- Loose, sagging bags of skin from the lower eyelid.
Is Blepharoplasty Right For Me?
Blepharoplasty may be performed on the upper or lower eyelids, or both. Many patients choose blepharoplasty to correct sagging and drooping eyelids; in some cases, sagging eyelids may affect a patient’s ability to see clearly. In other cases, sagging skin under the eyes causes a look of exhaustion. Blepharoplasty may be performed on women and men in good general health, although it may not be advisable for those with certain health conditions, particularly glaucoma and other medical conditions that affect the eyes. Patients should note that blepharoplasty focuses on the eyelids, but not the surrounding areas such as “crow’s feet” at the corners of the eyes. In many cases, blepharoplasty is performed in combination with a brow lift or other facial surgery to achieve total correction of all facial imperfections.

How Is Blepharoplasty Performed?
The purpose of eyelid surgery is to remove excess skin, folds and wrinkles from around your eyes, enabling your eyes and their sparkle to be visible.
- Upper Eyelid Surgery
Through small incisions in the natural crease of the eyelid, excess fat and skin is removed from the eyelid area. The placement of the incision allows scars to be well-hidden.
- Lower Eyelid Surgery
Through an incision below the lower eyelashes, excess fat, skin and muscle is removed. Because the incision is made underneath your lashes, it is hidden.
What is Transconjunctival Blepharoplasty?
Transconjunctival blepharoplasty is performed to eliminate wrinkles and tighten the skin near the eyes without removing excess skin. An incision is made within the lower eyelid. Laser skin resurfacing or a chemical peel is often done with this procedure to further tighten the skin and soften wrinkles.
How Long Is The Recovery Period After Blepharoplasty?
Most patients require approximately a week to recover from eyelid surgery. During this recovery period, our office may provide medications such as antibiotic eye drops or ointment, and surgical tape may be used to support the eyelids as they heal. It is recommended that you keep your head and neck elevated during recovery, and avoid irritating the eye area.
How Much Does Blepharoplasty Cost?
Procedures involving both of the upper and lower eyelids will naturally be more expensive than those focusing on one or the other. If your health insurance provider does not cover blepharoplasty, our office provides flexible financing terms via CareCredit®, Simmons Bank, and Prosper® Healthcare Lending. We also accept cash, checks, and credit cards as payment options.
