Male Breast Reduction
The medical term for the collection of fat on men's pectorals is Gynecomastia; Greek for "woman-like breasts". Although this condition affects about 40 to 60 percent of men, it is rarely talked about and is a source of great embarrassment for many men. Gynecomastia may form on one or both sides of the chest.
Although there have been studies that link male breast development with drugs such as anabolic steroids, there is no known cause for most cases.
Male breast reduction surgery is a great option for men who are self-conscious about their chests. The removal of fat and tissue, and in some cases excess skin, results in a contoured, firmer and flatter chest.
This male breast augmentation surgery is best for men who are of any age and emotionally stable whom also have firm, elastic skin that will reshape to the contours from the surgery, producing the best results. Denver Face and Body discourages men who are obese that have not first tried a weight loss program from male breast reduction surgery. Denver Face and Body also discourages men from getting this procedure if they drink alcohol in excessive amounts.
Most gynecomastia surgery uses VASER® LipoSelection to remove the excess fat. For male breast reduction, your surgeon will make a small incision either around the edge of the areola (the darker skin that surrounds the nipple) or in the underarm area. From this incision point, a small tube attached to a vacuum pump is inserted. Dr. Stephen Goldstein will then carefully break up the fat through the layers of skin and then will suction it out.
